Parents picking up their missionareis

The Newbolds and Bradfords came to pick up their sons. The Newbolds live in Bountiful, Utah and the Bradfords in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Elder Bradford was one of the Presidents assistants. His dad under Crowton was a defensive coach for BYU. Now he is the defensive cordinator for Mississippi State.

Karen baked dozens of cookies for these elders and they in turn would share them with the other elders. They both ended their mission serving in the provinces.

Elder Eichelberger is the son of Pam Newbold.

July 28, 2009 change

Elder Malale replaced elder Neuenschwander in the office. Karen with elder Adams and elder Briggs. Elder Briggs was the presidents assistant.

There were 19 missionaries going home and a lot of people came to tell them good-bye. Many to never see them again in this life.

Mighty Mite

This is the all powerful vacuum cleaner that we have to clean our apartment. It's just like the one I had in my motor home. What I wouldn't give for my Rug Doctor back home.

July 18th

The week before changes we went to the Inka Market to purchase some things for our grandchildren. The Newbolds who live in Bountiful are coming to pick up her son from his mission and are bringing two empty suitcases to take some of our things back to the USA. It turned out that we sent 77 lbs. of books, clothing, gifts, recuerdos, etc. We also bought the sweater that Karen is wearing at another booth for about $5. It is Alpaca wool.

Family Home evening July 6, 2009

When we go to the Area office, MTC or the temple we never know about the traffic. If we go any time after 5:15 in the afternoon it will take at least an hour to get there. Well we went to Home Evening and left just after 5:00. We were ahead of the traffic and got over there in a half hour. So we walked around the temple grounds. Our Home Evening was held at the temple presidents house which is in the corner of the grounds.

The templed is very beautiful. The flowers are in bloom year around even though we are in winter.

We saw this beautiful Hybiscus.

This is our group. Though on the 13th, the Earls from Moses Lake, Washington, The Davies from Sandy, Utah and Elders from Springville, Utah will all be going home. Who knows if we will ever see them again. The Earls already have another call to be the MTC President in Madrid, Spain January 1, 2010.

First P day with the Tylers

We decided to celebrate the 4th of July down here. Karen put it all together. She made a potatoe salad and a corn salad. I went to KFC and bought a couple of buckets of chicken. Also coleslaw and french fries came with it. Drinks, brownies and chocalte chip cookies that Karen made. We decided to go the Ancient Olive Tree park. Just as we put all of our food out to eat and had filled our plates, three policeman came and said that we couldn't eat in the park. So we gathered everything up and went back to the Presidents house to finish eating.

Elmers last day in the mission and Tylers first.

President hanging new map.
In the afternoon President and sister Elmer showed up at the office and introduced us to the Tylers.

On our way to the airport in the van. Elder Montalbo also went home. He needed to have his knee operated on.

Also our Area President Doug Nash was on the same flight heading to SLC.

Karen talking to Pres. Nash.

Telling Elder Montalbo good-bye. He is going home to Twin Falls.

President Elmer giving me some last minute instructions.

Sister Elmer and Karen saying their last good-byes.

One last hug.

One final foto.

Up the escalator. See you in a year. We love you.

Last Zone Conference for Elmers

This is the last Multizone conference in Lima that the Elmers had before going home. Just 5 days before going home. After the conference Sister Elmer, Karen and I took a taxi and we stopped at a Mexican restaurant to eat. Later that night sister Elmer was in the hospital and had her Gall Bladder removed. What a way to end your mission. She wasn´t able to fly to Cusco for their last Zone Conference over there and tell all the missionaries good-bye for the last time.

This is a great group of missionaries going back to Bolivia.

Elder Gurr, a great missionary was reassigned from the office to Andahuaylas.

Elder Gurr is from Salt Lake City.

He has been replaced by elder Eck from Arizona.

The Brignone's were serving in our mission in the Lima area. But they returned to Bolivia were they were called to. They are from the Seattle area.

P-day with Pres. and sister Elmer

At the office we decided to move things around. At the same time the Area office came in and painted all the walls.

Karen and I exchanged desks. She now has a window to look out. In the afternoon the office elders, the assistants, and sister Cleverly and I went with the Elmers to Jockey Plaza to two games of bowling. We had a lot of fun. Here is a picture of the president getting up after falling on his very first try. Between the Elmers and the Cleverlys, President had the highest score, I was second, sister Elmer was third and sister Cleverly fourth. But the second game we got warmed up. I was first and sister Cleverly second.

Olive grove park

Our very good friends the Ramirez came to visit.

Not far from our apartment is this beautiful park that stretches for at least 3/4 of a mile full of Olive trees that are at least 500 years old. A fenced area shows how the olives were pressed into oil. In my minds eye I can easily see the Savior in the Garden of Gethsemene by Olive trees. After walking thru part of the park and sitting by a bench to visit next to a large pond with several different fountains, we went to the restaurant Valvadi's to eat. After eating we went back to our apartment and just visited and played the card game golf that my brother Dale had taught us.

Stake Presidents Council

Sister Elmer put us in charge of getting the food to the Stake Presidents Council that went from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sat
It was held at the church's Institute of Religion
Building. We had purchased all kinds of fruit and Karen made a fruit salad for them along with Muffins she had made Friday.

Karen was worried about how we were going to get everything over to the IRU. A small miracle happened on Friday afternoon. A young woman came into the office by the name of Marianeta Alejandria. She ask if we needed someone to transport missionaries. She said that her husband Jorge Alejandria was just starting a new company called "Class A Tours". We explained what we needed and she said she would fax us a price sheet. About a half hour later I received the fax and called her back saying we would accept. So on Saturday Jorge picked us up, took us to the IRU. We dropped off the Fruit salad, Muffins and drinks and Jorge took us back home. Then at 11:30 he came and picked us up again along with the office elders where we stopped at KFC and bought chicken, cole slaw and potatoes. It didn't take as long as we thought to get the chicken so we arrived at the IRU sooner than we expected so we played some games in their rec room. Karen actually beat me at ping pong.

Inka Shops

Inka Shops
There are hundreds and hundreds of little vendors selling their wares from clothing, dolls, purses, jewelry etc. We didn't buy anything but got a good idea of some of the things that they have.

Highway

Highway
One of many highways in Lima. This is Avenida Arequipa that runs north and south. Maybe 9-10 blocks from our apartment. During rush hour this road will be packed.

On our P-day we went to Miraflores and ate at a fantastic restaurant just above the cliff. The tall building in the background is the Marriott hotel. The name of the restaurant was Mangos. It was buffet.
